Dewey Lake 6 miles round trip* with 900 feet of elevation gain (it's 2.1 miles around the lake)Īnderson Lake 10 miles round trip* with 1,000 feet of elevation gainĪmerican Lake 14 miles round trip* with 1,000 feet of elevation gain (it's ~0.5 mile east from the PCT)Ĭougar Lake 19 miles round trip* with 1,600 feet of elevation gain As you round the peak there are views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and the Goat Rocks as well as Tipsoo Lake and Yakima peak near the pass. This hike features splendid wildflower meadows from mid-July to mid-August, tarns, a waterfall, and in the fall, crimson huckleberry bushes in profusion. Snow lingers late on the east side of the peak and the trail there may not be accessible until late July or even early August, or not at all in some years. If the hike is done in the clockwise direction, Mount Rainier will be in view for the latter part of the hike. This is a spectacular, easy, and popular alpine hike, which starts on the Cascade crest and the PCT at Chinook Pass (5,400 ft). Naches Peak Loop 3.4-mile loop with 500 feet of elevation gain Turn left to loop back on the PCT or turn right to head south on the PCT towards any of several lakes that are great camps. Hike the Naches Peak Loop Trail from the trailhead on US-410 at Tipsoo Lake near Chinook Pass until it meets the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Treat water before drinking.Drive US-410 to the trailhead at Tipsoo Lake about a half mile south of Chinook Pass. Dogs are allowed in the national forest section of the Pacific Crest Trail, but must be leashed. Dogs are not allowed on other portions of the Naches Peak Loop Trail, nor are they allowed on any other trail inside the park. Pets are allowed only on the Pacific Crest Trail portion of the loop. Elsewhere within Mount Rainier National Park camping opportunities exist both in designated trailside camps and crosscountry areas. Camping is permitted on adjacent United States Forest Service lands. Nor are there any suitable sites for camping along the Pacific Crest Trail within the park. There is no camping along the Naches Peak Loop Trail within Mount Rainier National Park. To get the best views of Mount Rainier, hike the loop in a clockwise direction This loop provides the hiker with breathtaking views of the Mountain, a look at beautiful subalpine meadows, and an abundant supply of huckleberries in late summer and early fall. This short hike is well worth the extra time and effort. An option for hikers with a bit more time and energy is to proceed on the Pacific Crest Trail from the junction to Dewey Lakes, an additional one mile round trip. To continue the loop and return to Tipsoo Lake in 1.4 miles, follow the Naches Loop Trail along the west side of Naches Peak. It starts out along the Pacific Crest Trail at Chinook Pass and leads south, traversing the east side of Naches Peak 1.6 miles until intersecting the Naches Loop Trail. This easy loop is one of the most popular hikes in the park. For a clockwise hike of the Naches Peak Loop Trail, follow the trail from the picnic area to Chinook Pass and the Pacific Crest Trail.
